Course description:
The English 1 (EN31) course is designed to enhance university students' English skills for effective
communication or to fulfill the necessary English exam requirements for the completion of their university
degree. The course incorporates engaging content, aligned with Global Scale of English standards, and a
wealth of supplementary materials for an enjoyable learning experience. Its objective is to enhance the
fundamental language abilities such as vocabulary, grammar, speaking, functional communication,
pronunciation, writing, listening, and reading. To maintain motivation, the course covers a diverse range of
exercises encompassing grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation on various topics. Students will have the
opportunity to practice their reading, listening, and writing skills, covering different genres such as stories,
articles, reviews, reports, social media, and blogs. The course emphasizes sub-skills such as identifying the
main ideas in a text, guessing the meaning of words from context, identifying positive and negative
attitudes, organizing ideas, using paragraphs, explaining reasons and results, using time expressions, and
linkers. Students will be coached on how to utilize these sub-skills effectively through practice exercises to
increase comprehension.
